, in the next weeks and next months in this country but most of the united states senators don't give a rat's ass about it. hate to start with that downer but that's the way it is here on the "full court press" this morning. that's mainly what we're going to be talking about and taking your calls about here on this thursday morning. coming to you live from our nation's capital, just down the street from the scene of that cowardly vote yesterday. and take your calls at 1-866-55-press. looking forward to hearing from you and hearing your outrage on twitter at bpshow and on facebook, be our friend on facebook and tell us where the hell we go from here at facebook.com/billpressshow. man, lots to talk about this morning. we're all here. with peter ogborn and dan henning. >> yes sir. >> good morning. >> bill: we come in even on bad days. alichia cruz is here to take your calls. burn up the phone lines this morning. cyprian bowlding will keep us look calm, cool and collected on the video cam. there's news on a lot of different fronts this morning. actually you probably heard overnight. a massive e
envelope did reach the office of a united states senator, senator wicker of mississippi. an envelope that was tested not once, not twice but three times and so far proven to be positive for ricin. but authorities say they need more testing. they're sending that letter to maryland where the u.s. government does these kinds of tests for suspicious letters. a lot of nerves frayed as a result of this letter. and now a second letter they have stopped. a suspicious letter similar to the letter sent to senator roger wicker of mississippi addressed to the president of the united states. that letter is now being investigated as well. at the same time we've heard of these evacuations and the freezes, if you will, from various senate office buildings. all of this happening in the aftermath of the boston marathon bombings. so nerves are frayed right now. everyone is on edge as the president of the united states gets ready to come to boston tomorrow to participate in an interfaith memorial service. let's go to the white house, brianna keilar is standing by. brianna, i assume the president, he's a
.c., in the united states senate. our chief congressional correspondent, dana bash, has been reporting on the breaking news. a letter apparently laced with the poison ricin was sent to a united states senator. this is a deadly poison, dana. what are you picking up? >> well, we can now report that the senator to whom this letter was addressed is roger wicker, republican senator of mississippi. and we reported this news before most senators even knew that senator wicker had received this letter, which, again, has tested positive three times for the poison ricin. as we were reporting it, there was a meeting of all senators. they're actually getting briefed on the developments in boston. while they were there, they were also told about this letter that went to senator wicker. and what some senators coming t told our congressional producers is the following. first of all, senator mccaskill has said that her understanding coming out of this briefing is there might even be a suspect in custody. the suspect is somebody who according to mccaskill, quo, writes a lot of letters. she also emphasiz
that was sent to a united states senator. that also is the subject of the investigation by the fbi. and for more information about these matters, i refer you to the fbi. the president i'm sure you'll ask this, the president of course has been briefed on these letters. he was briefed last night and against this morning. secondly, there is obviously a lot of interest in the explosions in boston, and i wanted to make clear, as you heard from the president yesterday, that our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and to their families who were injured. those who were injured as well as killed in this heinous and cowardly act. the full weight of the federal government is behind this investigation, which is being led by the fbi, and as the president said, we will find out who did this, we will find out why, and we will bring those responsible to justice. that said, it is very important that we allow this investigation to run its full course and to ensure that we retain the integrity of that investigation. therefore, on matters related to the investigation, i would direct you to the fbi. as you know
in washington that a united states senator got a piece of mail with what appears to be at least initial tests show it was positive for the poison ricin. >> it's very eerie, dana. i know you remember it vividly. you lived through that period in 2001 right after 9/11 when there were those anthrax-laced letters that were sent to members of congress, sent to the news media, sent to others and some of those letters proved to be deadly in the process. and now another poison, ricin, believed to have been sent to one senator, maybe another lawmaker or even others and maybe even to the president of the united states. so we don't know if there's any connection to that. we don't know if there's any connection to what occurred here at the boston marathon on monday, but it is very, very eerie and scary when you think about it. standby for a moment, dana. brianna is standing by at the white house. we're waiting for a briefing over at the white house. we'll of course have all of the latest information. one of our other capitol ker correspondents is getting more information. >> i'm in the heart office buildi
of the united states or this republican senator roger wicker of mississippi, bill? >> bill: mike, thank you. i want to bring in greta van susteren. greta is a lawyer. investigated plenty of crimes. she is in the studio getting ready for "on the record" at 10:00 eastern time. what do you make of the quick movement on behalf of investigators? >> bill, i'm actually not surprise. the man looks a little bit touched. if indeed he is guilty, he did a very serious thing. he threatened the life of a president and of a u.s. senator. i don't know if there are any other letters out there. i'm not underestimating the seriousness of the crime. but the fact that he is hanging around washington. he is known probably to the fbi and the secret service. he signed his note with i am k.c. and i approve this message which is rather bizarre not to mention the signature he used his own initials assuming he is the one. i think it's pretty reasonable to assume that tonight. this is so predictable that they would have found him. he has probably made other contact with law enforcement. i suspect this is someone who has b
sends poison to a united states senator is on some level a crazy person, so once you're crazy you've opened it up to any number of possibilities. >> the net widens once you've stipulated somebody is crazy could be crazy on any level for any reason. if it's a political statement or statement of any kind that's supposed to correspond with another statement with this loose n.r.a. tie, if you want to buy into that, but in any case, there's no specificity at all about this bombing. this is just an act of terrorism that appears random, nobody is taking credit for it. thus far, there are no clues. if it's intended to be a statement of some kind, the statement is. cenk: lost on us. >> exactly a blur. cenk: that's interesting because now everybody is speculating. again, i don't blame them, because everybody's curious about it. some i blame, glenn beck with his insane theory which of course it had to be the muslims because they kill in sents. he didn't say right wing, but when nationalists americans do it they target non-innocents? is that a defense of the right wing terrorism? where did yo
where all of the mail that comes to the united states senator's office is screened, tested, opened, and essentially checked to make sure it is clear before they pass it on to the capital complex. so it did not get anywhere close to the capital complex and jay carney told us today at the white house that it did not get anywhere close to the white house or to president obama. so, senator mcconnell was quite happy this morning. said justice would prevail. but said the bottom line was they learned a lot from those 2001 anthrax letter attacks and they made sure that these letters in this case did not get anywhere close to the lawmaker and to the president of the united states. and so bottom line the system worked in this case, bill. >> bill: yeah, one more thing here, mike. is the case considered closed or is there a possibility of more letters being received out there? >> they are on the lookout for other suspicious letters. we had a bunch of offices evacuated or cleared and has mat uniforms come into the capitol or offices around the capitol complex and also some to some district offi
is all of a sudden getting something like this sent to the united states senate, you have to start wondering is something being triggered here? is something going on? it may turn out not to be so but it's worth investigating it from that point of view. >>brian: for that point of view is a guy that's written other senators before. >>steve: peter doocy is outside washington, d.c. >> the building behind me is where the field test was done on a piece of mail sent to republican senator roger wicker that came back positive for ric i n poison. we're told the letter was postmarked memphis, tennessee, had no return address but was otherwise not outwardly suspicious. and the f.b.i. says right now more advanced testing is being done at an acredited facility to confirm the letter did contain ric i n. the cdc says it would take a deliberate act to make ricin and poison people. it has no antidote and some senators are on edge. >> it goes to a lot of staff. that's a big concern obviously for all of us. we're very anxious to get more details. >> senators on capitol hill were briefed about this let
with deadly poison are set to the president and a united states senator. it's all "happening now." a lot of news to bring to you on this thursday morning. "happening now" president obama will speak at a memorial service for victims of the boston marathon bombings in just a few minutes. good morning i'm jon scott. jenna: i'm jenna lee. we will dip in and out of this interfaith service at boston's cathedral of the holy cross. you can see just a beautiful cathedral the service just getting underway. this is just about a mile from the site of the twin opl bombings on monday where three people were killed and 176 wounded in the worst terror attack on american soil since september 11th. we are live in boston with more. rick. >> reporter: as you might imagine very heavy security in the streets outside the cathedral here that have been shut down. we have boston police s.w.a.t. team members behind us as well as hundreds of officers lining the road here. you can see a lot of of the folks behind barricades. the line began before dawn this morning to get into the cathedral, and about an hour ago it

that was sent to the united states senator. that is the subject of investigation by the fbi and four more for mission about these matters i refer you to the fbi. >> the president i'm sure what your last if he has been briefed on the letters. he was briefed last night and then again this morning. >> secondly, there is obviously a lot of interest in the explosions in boston. i want to make clear as you heard from the president yesterday's that our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and to the families who are injured. those were injured as well as killed in this heinous and cowardly act. the full weight of the federal government is behind the investigation which is being led by the fbi. >> as the president said, we will find out who did this year it will find out why and we will bring those responsible to justice. >> with that said, it is very important we allow this investigation to run its full course and to insure retain integrity of that investigation. >> therefore, on matters related to the investigation i direct you to the fbi. >> as you know the fbi is giving press briefings on
including the president of the united states, a u.s. senator and the mother of a mississippi judge. we will speak to an expert on exactly this type of issue, bioterrorism coming up in just a bit. also, an angry president obama lashes out at the nation's top gun lobby in the wake of the defeat of a new gun bill. is that group really to blame in fair and balanced debate on the charges leveled by the white house yesterday. this couple's personal grudge may to be blame for a series of small town killings that put law enforcement on a nationwide high alert. we haven't been updating this case of the texas prosecutors who have been killed because we have been so focused on everything that's happening there have been major divoms. we will bring them to you. as our nation mourns the despicable attacks on the boston marathon, we are seeing a growing surge of prism o. patriotism in this country. turned their own losses in the wake of the september 11th attacks of a powerful message of strength and hear how they among some others in this country now believe these terrorists messed with the wrong p

, the home state of senator roger wicker. actually, his hometown, as well. he's one of the people who got one of the mailings. we know of two suspicious letters, a lot of confusion at the united states capitol today. a mail delivery to the capitol has been stopped, while authorities try to figure all of it out. of the suspicious letters that were field tested, and initially deemed positive, one was addressed to the white house. another, an earlier letter, as i said, addressed to senator wicker. these are only field tests, false-positives are known to occur. according to law enforcement authorities, anderson, both of the letters were detected at an off site facility. authorities say there was a message contained in the letters. that message said, "to see a wrong and not expose it is to become a silent partner to its continuance." both letters we're told signed "i'm kc and i approve this message." the letters have been sent to labs for testing. there had been ricin false-positives in the past. anderson? >> joe, last night we were told one of the letters was addressed from memphis, tennessee, po
